Padding Style

I really like this look as it is old fashioned and always been a way to do this and for me i like the style, it is very simple to do and shows i have looked at the Elizabethan hair.

How i did the ratt

For the ratt i made it with black tights, so that it went with my hair colour for the assessment. But when for showing how to do that, i used this, The one thing i would need to change for the ratt would be to use thinner tights and not as long as the end was to much and stuck out of the hair slightly.
Just shows what it looks like and how small i made it, as you can see there is to much for what i have used inside.
Rolling it towards the head and secure it with bobby pins into the tights and then through the hair to get it to stay in place

From the top of the head, so you can see what it looks like once it is done, and it looks neat and Elizabethan, which is why this technique is important to know for this.

My Creation of my Partners Hair design Assessment
I think that i done well with the sectioning and it being in the right place that would work, then crimping the hair was ok, but then sectioning every bit of hair for crimping was a slow process and especially as i have not got many skills in doing that, so i took my time. The Styling using a afro comb to brush out the crimped texture was simple, but not knowing whether i have done it to much or not, because then you lose the texture, then going on to backcomb was hard for me, as i haven't use a brush like that to do it before and i thought made it look matted at some point, as it make it stand out, but once you go to do the heart shape you can see it go into place and why it should be done.
The most difficult part for me was twisting the hair around the back of the head into the middle where the parting is, because it was supposed to go inwards and not twist so much and hold the hair so tight, as i was grabbing, which is why it wouldn't go in properly, i just couldn't get the hang of it, so i decided to do my own version of how i think it looks like and was easy then to get the outline of what it would look like. The gold which was secured in the middle all the way along to the back of the head, and thread sewn on each end where the bobby pins would go, so then they can be secured at the front hidden under the hair and at the back to.
if i did it again i would practice with my timing of taking less time to do things that are not that crucial to do and focus on the parts that are more important, even practice different styles that i find difficult so then i know what i'm doing more.Even just being more confident in how it looks and what i'm doing.

My Hair Design Assessment Evaluation
This was the final outcome of my design on my hair, I think that it went well with how it was created on my head, and my partner did change the look slightly so that it worked and what she could do. The Front of it i made a ratt to roll the hair up in and make it high, which i think i achieved that and showed what i wanted it to look like. But the part at the top i think didn't work as well as the front, and was a lot smaller and not as high, so it looked like a roller was in it and was pinned back to much at the sides, as i wanted it to be looser and look like the front, but had to think about gravity though, because it did keep pulling it down, which is why it wasn't as successful, i think if was done again i would say to backcomb the rolled hair on the top, which would make it stand out more.
The plaits worked though, and were easy to do and my partner even thought of another way of the plaits that were right underneath and came around into the middle, so instead of it going around on both side of the head, decided to cross them over each other, as it looked much better looking. The crimping was quick and so was sectioning the hair, so did it in the right amount of time that was needed, so that it brought texture to it and volume enough to create a shape with it.
You can see the front looks very Elizabethan with the crimped texture and that it is high, but i think if i did it again i wouldn't include the rolled hair on top, as i think it looks like a after thought, even though it is not, it looks like a bun which is not what i thought it would be, The contemporary side is the plaits and making it look slightly bridal with them, but it is very neat and not messy. I would need to make the ratt again as was quite short and made it stick out when trying to secure it to the head, so one side was slightly flatter, but my partner did a good job with trying to hide that by pulling parts of the hair up with the pin tail comb to make it work, also not to buy tights that are to thick and big to create the ratt, as it is difficult to tie the end and to bend it into shape.

Hair design Practice
For the hair i was looking at the character in a way that shows her as playful and doesn't care what people thought of her in the Elizabethan Era, so it will be up, which is what women had it styled as in that era was when they were married, but she didn't care, so she just did what she wanted and it was ok to do, because she was wealthy. I have made it big, because she wanted to stand out and show off.
First The hair was sectioned at the front, then rolled up into the hair with a ratt that i made, but the tights were quite big and thick to fit the inside that i used, but they worked to what i wanted to create with a big front and smaller piece on top of the head behind it.
The securing it into the hair without being able to see it, then for the plaits on either side that i sectioned, then plaited them and which they went around the head behind the first rolled up part at the front.
Sectioning the top part of the head was next, so it like going around the head when sectioning it, rolled that towards the head with another ratt, then secured into the hair.
Underneath that getting pieces of hair from both sides again to plait, and then that goes under that rolled bit of hair and trying to hide them so you cant see how they are put together.Lastly is the piece of hair left that you section into two, then plait them and wrap them around the head and put up into the middle of the hair behind the first hair that i rolled.
I like how it is simple, but stands out with the hair big when rolled up, and the plaits give it a texture and something other than just two things in the hair. I was trying to make it look slightly bridal, so contemporary with some Elizabethan inspiration in it so that i have related back to that as well.Next time i do need to think about the ratts more and how to create them with thinner tights and less to work with to get the right look i was hoping for.
